All you ever wanted to know about the "Lorimer Shield" team Captains

Within the CAI golfing society the District Society "Lorimer" Captains are widely recognised as men of unique personal charisma and leadership and so, on the occasion of the 50th / Golden Jubilee renewal of the Lorimer Shield, CAI Golf blog has asked each to provide us with a little insight into their characters so that we can appreciate the real people behind these legendary golfers.




First up - the defending 'Lorimer' Captain Bill Miscampbell, winner of more "majors" at Rosses Point than anyone else

Greatest golf achievement outside of CAIGS

The first year I played at Rosses Ulster won but they forgot to present the Lorimer - until I reminded them. I earned an immediate reputation and was duly elected Ulster Captain for my trouble.

What do you like most about your job?Playing golf when I'm meant to be working
Greatest professional ambitionTo remain injury free for the remaining 2 years of my soccer career

Favourite memory / recollection / anecdote from RossesLate night poker in a smoke filled room with legends from previous generations including John Sedgewick, Harold Winter, Cecil Donovan, Leo Kearney and Charlie Russell. 
Greatest golf achievement outside of CAIGSSeveral major Irish amateur golf championships - as a caddy
Tell us your Dream 4 ballRoy Keane, Steven Gerard and Mick McCarthy. If Stevie couldn't make it, I'd ask Alf-Inge Haaland to make it a friendly fourball.
Interesting fact about you not known to other CAIGS golfersI am a Dub but have represented Wexford at GAA, soccer, handball and Waterford at Irish Dancing. 
Greatest golfing ambitionTo improve my golf handicap when I give up the soccer.

Favourite memory / recollection / anecdote from RossesIn my first year I turned up late when I was paired with Cecil Donovan (past president), Oliver O'Brien and Hugh O'Hare. I was terrified but they made me feel very welcome - the true spirit of Rosses Point.
Greatest golf achievement outside of CAIGSBeing accepted as a member of CAGS, the society of the England & Wales Institute
Tell us your Dream 4 ballBobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. If we all used used my clubs Tiger would have no chance

Report from Barcelona on Triangular match





The 2018 Triangular took place at the PGA Catalunya Resort which is host to the gruelling 6 final rounds of the European Tour qualifying school each year. Ranked no. 4 of Europe’s best, the Stadium course proved to be enjoyable venue and indeed a very worthy challenge.

Lorimer Shield Golden Jubilee 2018






To mark the 50th renewal of the Interprovincial District Society team competition we are delighted to offer the opportunity for you to purchase a team polo shirt so you may represent your province appropriately on Saturday at Rosses Point. The shirts will feature the new golf society logo and are available in all sizes for €25 (to be finalised). Ladies shirts are also available and there is an orange colour option for the Ulster shirts on request. In addition to the logo, the sleeve will be embroidered with the lettering below.
