New 9 hole event at Rosses Point 2018
The golf society is delighted to announce that there will be nine hole competitions on each day of the annual outing over the shorter, flatter Bomore links at Rosses Point. It is expected that the new competitions will be of interest to different groups of golfers including the following:
- Those for whom the social aspects of golf and the annual Chartered Accountants outing are paramount;
- Members of the society who have stopped coming to Rosses because they have found the championship course too long or tiring;
- Less experienced golfers daunted by the challenge of the Championship course and perhaps daunted by the more serious (foolhardy?) golfers who relish such a challenge;
Regardless of your motivation the society would be delighted to welcome new and old members to Rosses Point to join in the camaraderie of the society's annual meeting which comprises social as well as golfing activities. In honour of the new category of competition we are pleased to acknowledge that Chartered Accountants Ireland have supported the purchase of this perpetual trophy which will be awarded for the best score on the Bomore on the second day (Saturday) of the annual meeting. There will also be a prize for the best score on the first day (Friday.) The competition is open to all Chartered Accountants with an affiliated handicap, except those who are competing for the other prizes on the championship course on the same day.
I have attached below the layout and some additional information about the Bomore links taken from the website of the County Sligo golf club.
BOMORE COURSE
The Bomore 9 hole course was added in 1999 and has become very popular with members and visitors alike. These nine holes present a very different challenge from the championship course with prickly gorse bushes and numerous water hazards awaiting an errant drive. The terrain is flat and mostly below sea level and is regarded by many as a very enjoyable experience.
