New annual golf match to bring together Chartered Accountants from Ireland and Scotland
The
longstanding cordial relationship between Chartered Accountants Ireland and the
Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS) is to be marked by a new
annual golf match. The aim of the new competition is to bring together
Chartered Accountants from Scotland and Ireland in friendship and sport to
network and share ideas.
The
President of ICAS, Sandy Manson, and Feargal McCormack, President of Chartered
Accountants Ireland, have put up a new prize, the 'McCormack Manson Annual Perpetual Golf
Trophy' for an annual match that will be played alternately in
Ireland and Scotland.
The match
will follow a Ryder Cup format, with two rounds of foursomes match play on a
Saturday, followed by singles match format on a Sunday. The inaugural event
will take place in Scotland at Muirfield on Saturday, 13 April 2019, with the
singles match on the following day at Gullane Golf Course. Muirfield and
Gullane Golf Clubs are one mile apart in Gullane village, East Lothian.
The captain
of the 2019 Chartered Accountants Ireland team, which will comprise of 12
players, is Peter Greene FCA and the captain of the ICAS team is Mike Balfour.
In 2020 the
Chartered Accountants Ireland / ICAS Golf Match will take place at Royal
Portrush Golf Club on the North Antrim Causeway coast, host of the 2019 Open
Championship.
