2019 Rosses Point Newsletter 1 - April 2019

Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2019 season. The golfing year has just exploded into action with Tiger’s amazing come back to win the US Masters in Augusta. It is traditionally the Masters on TV that gets us all to dust off the clubs out and start practising for the season ahead. With less than 6 weeks until the annual outing at Rosses Point you'll need to get moving if you intend to come along to the event, the 93rd meeting of the Chartered Accountants Ireland golf society and the 66th consecutive year at Rosses Point. As of today there are 43 players registered. To join them go to https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/the-93rd-annual-meeting-of-the-chartered-accountants-ireland-golf-society-tickets-54523632653. This online entry format makes it convenient as all the data is presented neatly in a spreadsheet for who is golfing, staying and eating on each day. Thank you for using it. The costs for this years’ outing have been held at 2018 levels and the event represents great value at €160 for two rounds of championship golf, competition entry and the Captain’s dinner on Saturday evening. It is worth noting at this stage our Centenary event planned for next year may well be sold out and priority will be given to this years attendees.

McCormack Manson Trophy – Last weekend a team of Irish Chartered Accountants played a “Ryder Cup” style fixture against the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland at Muirfield and Gullane in Scotland. Facilitated by President Feargal McCormack and Captained by Peter Greene, we were victorious by 13 ½ - 10 ½ and succeeded in bringing the beautiful crystal trophy (pictured with Feargal McCormack, Peter Greene, Sandy Manson (ICAS President) and Mike Balfour (Scotland Captain) back to Ireland.

Chartered Accountants Ireland Golf Society online – you can check out the latest news and information on our website at www.charteredaccountants.ie/golf. The weblog contains a calendar of events for 2019 as well as details of the society’s activities. Did you know for example that our President Feargal McCormack’s greatest golfing achievement was defeating Ryder Cup player and TV Commentator David Feherty when they both were schoolboys. Find out more about Feargal in our latest in the series “There is no room for comments on a scorecard – until now” We are also on Twitter @ChrtAccGolf https://twitter.com/chrtaccgolf and on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/company/18554291/admin/. Whilst our society is both strong and thriving, we are always looking forward to renewal and encouraging younger members to join us. The target market for this activity is therefore not our existing membership but if you do see it online, it would be very helpful if you can “Like”, Comment, reply, add a photograph or an anecdote because every response assists to build the audience and you each have a distinct network that enables our message to spread. It may be that your network’s contacts are the ones that will reach the next generation of Rosses Point golfers.
