The 97th annual outing of the Chartered Accountants Ireland Golf Society took place last weekend, the 24 and 25 May 2024. The Society has been operating since the 1920s and this is the 71st visit to County Sligo Golf Club at Rosses Point. Since Covid the society is thriving. Over a third of the players (21 players) this year were newcomers and this is a trend that has been growing since 2022. New members are warmly welcomed by the society and the committee were delighted to see several of the first timers join the more established members on the podium!

Another highly contested prize was the Cecil Donovan inter-firms trophy. This is the second year of this competition and has started to draw teams from firms large and small. Congratulations to Team Deloitte who emerged victorious this year after the valiant challenge posed by Team Mazars!

An exciting new addition to the outing was launched this year, with the introduction of a social golf event. This event invited social and beginner golfers for a golf lesson with club pro Dermot Carroll. This was followed by lunch at the club house before joining a most gracious host and member Byran Kilfeather for an enjoyable round of the 9 hole Bomore Course. All who participated thoroughly enjoyed the day  and dinner afterwards and have promised to return!

The Society also welcomed the newly appointed President of Chartered Accountants Ireland Barry Doyle to the outing on his first week in office. Barry accepted, on behalf of the Institute, a presentation to commemorate the Society's centenary which was celebrated last year. We are delighted to hear it now hangs in the Leinster meeting room at Chartered Accountants House in Dublin. A fitting tribute to this year's winning Lorimer Cup team!

The Society would like to express a huge thank you to the hosts at County Sligo Golf Club for their superb hospitality. Thank you Lady Captain Valerie Booker, Captain Jim Flood and Club President and Society member Neil Gaynor for your warm welcome and ongoing support.
